We know that more diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and opinions allow for greater inquiry, integrity, and understanding. CGD is committed to building and sustaining an organization that embraces diversity and fosters an inclusive environment. We value diversity across intersectional dimensions, including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, geographic location, and gender.
Every person participating in or attending a CGD event has a right to expect an environment that is welcoming and values their diverse experience. Our public events aim to bring together relevant expertise and a balance of perspectives on topics. Specifically, CGD events with more than two people are expected to avoid all-men or all-white panels. For events where CGD hosts a single external speaker, we expect to ensure diversity in speakers over the year.
Our events policy is one component of our efforts to enhance diversity at CGD, and as part of our commitment to diversity we have also undertaken efforts to:
- Conduct mandatory staff training on harassment, unconscious bias, and inclusion
- Increase the diversity of our board membership
- Intensify efforts to hire diverse candidates especially at the upper levels
- Track wages to make sure individuals of all genders at CGD are paid equally for equal work
We believe that our mission is best served by an institutional culture that fosters diversity in all its dimensions and equally elevates voices from different backgrounds and perspectives. We will continue to monitor our progress and explore new ways to advance diversity at CGD, and work with other think tanks and organizations to share and learn from our experiences.
